SNAPPER

Snapper is the most popular and sought after fish by New Zealand recreational fishermen. They are found around the entire North Island. Further south, they occur mostly around the upper third of the South Island, swimming further south in summer.

Snapper belong to the sea bream fish family and on average measure between 300mm - 600mm. in length. The average size of snapper is around 1-2kg but can grow in excess of 15 kilos.

Snapper can be caught on a variety of different baits and tackle, including jigging small lures or soft plastic baits. They can be caught all year round and are usually caught just above the ocean floor between depths of 10-90 meters.
